but the angry woman wouldn't be of any help he knew, and he hadn't gauged elaine well enough to know if she'd simply hand it over after going through the trouble of getting bit ... conversely, the situation was ambiguous enough that there was a chance he was due for either good or bad luck. it would be riskier to trust it; it might not just be a single finger he loses.
