MAZE ONE

[You wake up on a cold metal bed in a room that is unfamiliar to you.

How long have you been out for? Why does your head hurt? Why can't you remember how you got here?

Before you find the answer to these questions, you might want to check out that hand-written note. There's one in every room.

Dear [NAME],

Thank you for volunteering to participate in the experiment. With your help, this project should be quite successful. My name is Huey Laforet, and I am the one responsible for this experiment. I will be here observing and the point of my project will be revealed by the end.

Your goal today is to find the exit. To do so, you'll need three card keys. However, to activate them, you will need the item listed on the card to move forward. You might not be able to find everything by searching, but certainly, there are other ways to get what you need. I've left them scattered about,

If you fail to escape by the time the experiment is over, you will have to participate in further experiments with me. If you succeed, then you will be able to successfully leave the maze.

I wish you luck. Try to stay alive.

-Huey Laforet

It's fine. I'm Komaeda Nagito. Hopefully it's still appropriate to say "Pleased to meet you"...

[ you know, considering the circumstances. looking around, eyes settling on the drain. ]

Let's see... We should probably get out of the pool to get a better look at things, but that seems like the obvious thing to check first, since we're already here . . .

[ and why not go for the bait. going to inspect the drain. ]

I wish we could've met in better circumstances, Komaeda-san.

[That's the closest he gets to a "pleased to meet you"]

Just because it's obvious doesn't mean we shouldn't look. Clues can be hiding anywhere, right?

[And with that, he follows him to the drain]

[something swimming. . . in the drain?]

Eeeh?

[trying to get a closer look]

[lamp. . . reys. . .]

Where did these come from? And what is that. . .?

It's possible our captor installed them here as part of the scavenger hunt, so to speak. They don't really seem that calming though, for fish...

[ kneeling down to get a closer look at the floating things though ]

[ ... hmmmm

well it would follow that he ought to reach in and get it but. considering there are fish in there with a lot of sharps, it follows a rather cliche children's cartoon plot that the fish will probably pose a problem. (though, komaeda must give it credit for not being full of piranhas, of all things.)

after a moment of contemplation, he slowly takes off the glass lid and, if nothing happens, takes off his coat and lowers it into the drain to see if it elicits any kind of reaction from the lampreys. ]

[ to be honest, he would've actually been kind of disappointed if they didn't latch on, at this point ...

he pauses to consider his options. he could just reach in and get it and trust his luck to keep him from getting bit too much (or at least, getting bit fatally, or losing a finger), try a more elaborate method and waste time, or he could try to get someone else to pick it up for him, since they had two extra stooges in the room.

but the angry woman wouldn't be of any help he knew, and he hadn't gauged elaine well enough to know if she'd simply hand it over after going through the trouble of getting bit ... conversely, the situation was ambiguous enough that there was a chance he was due for either good or bad luck. it would be riskier to trust it; it might not just be a single finger he loses.

which is precisely why trusting his luck was never once a question.

without hesitation, he reaches for the card as quickly as possible and yank it out. ]

[ ah, well. he can't win every bet, can he?

he hisses at the pain, but he's pretty persistent about the card key and doesn't let go. it isn't until he's safely dropped (more like half-tossed because fine motor control is difficult in such situations) the card key on the floor of the pool, away from the drain, does he try to pull them off. ]

K-Komaeda-san. . .!

[HONESTLY, Naegi had hoped (as he often does) that they lampreys wouldn't have latched onto Komaeda's hand-- or, at the very least, there would have been an easier way to fish the card key out of the drain. But. . . well, the damage is done. He can only clean up from here]

Let me see! Do you need help getting them off? E-eeeh, we should have tried to find a pole or something else to fish the key out of the drain instead!
